FAQ and Fin Selection
Fin Blade Selection (which blade is right for me?)
Trying to determine which freediving blade to purchase can be difficult. Every company has a
different set of recommendations based on how they manufacture their fin blades. "Stiffness” is very subjective within the industry and varies dramatically from company to company. We tend to recommend stiffness based on your body mass and your leg strength. Here is what we recommend.
Extra Soft 85 to 125lbs
Soft 125 to 185lbs
Medium 175lbs to 250lbs
Hard 230lbs and up
Here are a few things to consider if you are on the edge about which fin to purchase.
You need to be able to fully flex the fin blade when you kick to get the most benefit from a freediving blade. When you kick, your blades should flex to approximately 70 to 80 degrees and then snap back as you begin the return portion of the kick. If your fins are too soft, they will not propel you through the water efficiently. If they are to stiff, you will not move as much water and will fatigue more quickly because of the added resistance on your legs.
